Hello
In Ron Parker beginning stepping, he start his dance with the left foot, in my classes the men lead with the right.
So which foot do the man start out on.

Ron Parker's Response:

Let's put it this way, in every social dance (Ballroom, Latin, Smooth, Country, Hustle, Swing, Salsa etc...) dance in the western world, the man typically starts the dance on his left foot.   That said, there are times when the man might begin on his right foot, as when dancing Ballroom Cha-Cha  (i.e., on "2"), or International style Rhumba (the weight shift on "and").

If your instructor says you begin with the right (I assume this would be the pomenade or starter step), then I would imagine he knows best about the way your dance is danced in your region.

Hope this helps.

p.s.  By the way, I can think of no other social dance where the man and woman both begin on the same foot.  But hey, that's Steppin!
