Interesting article re-posted from the New York Times about ERNIE ENSLEY. Don't know if you ever heard of him (I know I certainly hadn't), but back in the day (1940's, 50's and 60's) he was the one and original "Mambo King".

This is something for all those guys who think they are Mambo Kings today (you know who you are) to read -- and to think about.
You may have noticed by now that we here at R & B Salsa love to stress the interconectedness of everything in dance, and the fact that everything new is old. Well, there's nothing new about growing old either. Except that perhaps, because of technology, we can live longer and more healthier. I know that dancing certaily helps!
And he called it Mambo a la Savoy (The Savoy in New York is where, by the way, the Lindy Hoppers hung out in the 30's and 40's)
