Subject: Back in LA for Xmas: In Time for Lindy Groove after a 1 Yr Hiatus

Hi
I will be in LA for a month during the school winter break.  Last Friday, I attended the one and only Lindy Hop venue at the old Thunder Bird Motel.  There were about 20 people there dancing Lindy, which I gather is a normal crowd.  I guess I grew up spoiled in LA where you can dance 7 days a week.  I hear I use to dance three times a week.  Well, I will be back in time for the Lindy Groove Holiday Party this Thursday.  It has been almost a year since I last went to Lindy Groove before my ski accident in February.  I really do miss going out and dancing three day a week.  Hopefully, I will have the chance to see you when I come to LA.  Right now, I go to class twice a week and my last class is tomorrow.
PS. I hope to see you on the dance floor.
Yours truly,
Kirk

Oh, I just remembered to send you these photos I took of Thanksgiving.    All the photos may not be related to you, but I was very thankful for being alive to share this email.  I will leave it to you if you want to delete the photos.  I for one know that God gave this wonderful gift of life.
There is no such thing as a quite visit to LA.  During this trip I was fortunate to include the following photos:
  • Drive To LA from Las Vegas
  • Rhythm Club Swing Dance
  • Hermosa Beach Pier Walk
  • Portofino Inn Work Out
  • Newsong LA Church
  • Swing Dance @ Long Beach
  • Late Thanksgiving Dinner
Hopefully, you will see some familiar face in the photo I took.

Hustle
The Hustle is a catchall name for several disco dances which were extremely popular in the 1970s. Today it mostly refers to a type of swing dance based on various earlier forms of hustle and similar in style to East Coast Swing, though in the 1970s there was also a line dance called the Hustle.  The 1977 movie Saturday Night Fever, which showed both the line and partner forms of hustle, as well as something referred to as the "tango hustle", popularized the dance. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Our class teaches the modern version of the dance, also known as "New York Style Hustle".  Unlike most Hustle classes which immerse students in complicated patterns for which they are not ready, our course focuses on lead and follow techniques, rhythm and musicality, and style. Our goal is not only to teach you the dance, but to teach you how to look good doing the dance.

In addition we teach the dance to more contemporary Pop and R & B music (as opposed to 70's Disco music, which was fun, but has had it's day).

Nightclub Two Step
Nighclub Two Step Is a slow dance initally developed by Buddy Schwimmer (father of  "Benji" of  "So You Think You Can Dance" fame) in the mid-1960's.

"Two Step is something that people need, because in a nightclub it's kind of stupid to go out and do a rumba, sticking your elbow in the air. If you did that in the Marriott Hotel, they'd laugh at you. The dance position for Two Step is more natural, what people tend to do without lessons, street dancing in other words."  -Phillip Seyer

What makes Nightclub Two Step so popular is the fact that it is so easy to learn and lead, but can be as elegant and stylish as the Waltz when danced correctly. It is, in fact, a true American street dance. As opposed to simply teaching patterns and steps, our course teaches you how to dance to the music with style and flair.  Most mature women don't appreciate being manhandled and spun around a million times.  But, all women appreciate being made to look good on the dance floor.  That's what we teach.
